Winter is finally on the run and spring is well… springing. That means that the sap is running in the sugar maple woods of the Northeast and it’s time to think about heading to the sugar shack for a fresh supply of maple syrup for our pancakes, waffles and of course cocktails.
The drink experts here at Madtini have assembled a collection of 8 of their favorite maple syrup sweetened cocktails.
- 2 oz Maker’s Mark
- 1/4 oz sweet vermouth
- 1/4 pure maple syrup
- 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Preparation
Combine the bourbon, sweet vermouth, maple syrup and bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake several times, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add a cherry on a pick for a garnish.

- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
- splash of Ginger Beer
Preparation
Combine the bourbon, lime juice and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake several times. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Add a splash of ginger beer on top and garnish with a lime wheel.

- 3/4 oz Noilly Prat Dry French Vermouth
- 2 dashes orange bitters
Preparation
Add the vermouth and bitters to a mixing glass, add ice and stir well. Pour out half the liquid and add bourbon and maple syrup. Shake well, the strain into a chilled cocktail glass and serve.

Seems like its been a tough winter on the streets of Manhattan. Every time we’d turn on the news it seemed like everyone was digging themselves out from another foot of snow.
Let’s raise our glasses to surviving winter and forgetting about gloves, coats and mitts until next year. It’s time to gather ourselves up and head for the patios, rooftops and cafes to share good times. So, in honour of spring here’s a variation on the classic Manhattan with just enough maple syrup to sweeten things up.

Combine the maple syrup and bitters in the bottom of a mixing glass, stir until well combined. Fill 2/3 of the glass with ice, then squeeze the lemon over the ice. Pour in Jameson and garnish with a twist or orange.

Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with 3 ice cubes. Shake vigorously, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry.

Combine the whiskey, vermouth, and bitters to a mixing glass. Fill the glass 2/3 of the way full with ice. Stir for15-20 seconds, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Pour a can of Guinness into a tall glass and allow to settle. Gently scoop all the light foam from the top of the Guinness and place it on top of the drink. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
