The Madtinis of St. Patrick’s Day

St Patrick's Day Madtinis

“Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day”. That goes double for the hard working Intoxicologists at Madtini Research Labs. They’ve been wearing green lab coats, humming Danny Boy and dancing without moving their arms. Not sure why they’ve been dancing in the lab, I’m sure its not optimal for workplace safety.

They’ve been waiting in anticipation all year to start mixing magic with Irish Whiskey, delicious Bailey’s Irish Cream and maybe even a wee bit of Creme de Menthe for color and minty flavor. Thanks to their hard work, we now can offer up 6 tasty alternatives to the usual choice of a (or several) green beer.

And as the Irish Rovers used to say as they signed off… May you be in Heaven a full half hour before the Devil knows you’re dead.

And now back to watching YouTube clips of Sean Connery singing (yes, singing) in Darby O’Gill and the Little People. Cheers!

Two weeks of Winter Games Excitement… and Cocktails

Winter Games Drinks

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or buried in a snowbank you know that the Olympic Winter Games have been dominating the news from the sports world. From the crazy, weird opening ceremonies to the final Gold Medal hockey game between Canada and the USA we’ve watched with excitement as the world’s greatest athletes came together to celebrate the best of winter sports.

The Intoxicologists here at Madtini research labs have been busy too, coming up with new cocktail drinks to celebrate the victories and intense competition.

The first drink we concocted for the epic battle between Canada and Russia’s hockey teams was the Bionic Beaver. We followed that up with the ‘Hurry Hard for Gold’ to celebrate the Canadian curling teams win over Norway (or team super-pants as I dubbed them).

Sassy Paige Cocktail (Happy Birthday @PaigeSaid!)

We started to get to know @PaigeSaid on Twitter about a year ago and soon bumped into her at bunch of social events, tweet-ups, and fundraisers around Toronto.

One of the forces of nature behind the popular @PatioFriday meetup every Friday afternoon during the summer months in Toronto, Paige’s intelligence, quick wit and quicker smile charm us all – her smile is always present and contagious.

We created a sassy cocktail for our sassy pal @PaigeSaid – a cocktail that’s pretty, looks sweet, but is just sassy enough to surprise you.

Have a fabulously sassy birthday, Paige!

The Sassy Paige Cocktail

1 ounce gin

1 ounce club soda

1/2 ounce grenadine

juice of half a fresh lime

Combine in a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake well, strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with two cherries and a fresh mint leaf.

We’re Mad Men – Sesame Street Style

We’re mad, we’re sad, now we’re happy, happy happy men.

Week 7 – What’s your favorite Rum or Vodka cocktail?

After week 6 of Mad Men I think we all needed to settle back in our leather loungers and have a nice smooth drink – there’s nothing more tragic than an adman losing a foot to a lawnmower at an office party. But as Roger Sterling summed it up ”somewhere in this business this has happened” .

Remember Madtini readers – always play it safe, don’t drink and drive… especially in the office.

So we’re moving forward to Week 7 with feet in tact – but we need a suggestion. We have Rum, we have Vodka – and we’re ready to head out for a shopping trip.

So, help us – what is your favorite cocktail that uses Rum or Vodka – we’ll reveal our choice around noon on Sunday, then head out to get what we need. We’re still looking for Patio cola BTW.

Cheers and bottoms up from Madtini World Headquarters

Cocktail Poll: What Cocktail should #Madtini Feature for Mad Men Episode 3 of Season 3?

The Meatini? We think not!

The Meatini? We think not!

So far @randymatheson and I have made the Classic Martini and the Manhattan but we decided this time we’d let you vote on what cocktail would be the Official #Madtini Cocktail for Episode 3 of Mad Men (Season 3).

While that Meatini over there looks – interesting – I think we’ll stick with more traditional (not to mention liquidy) libations. So what shall it be? The Sweet Martini? The Black Martini? The Tom Collins? or the Bee’s Knees? Or maybe you have another suggestion for us?

Voting is open until 3:30pm Sunday, August 30th which will allow us enough time to go find any ingredients we might be missing.

Cheers!

If you vote for “Other” please tell us what you suggest in the comments – we’re having some technically difficulties with the poll app :)

Welcome to Madtini

In anticipation of the premiere of Season 3 of Mad Men we decided a virtual martini party on twitter would be a gas.

We first went over to MadMenYourself.com to get properly dressed in Mad Men-esque 60′s style. Then we thought #madtini would be a good hashtag.

Of course, being who we are, @randymatheson and I couldn’t just leave it with a hashtag – oh no – we had to turn it a bit of a hobby. We’ve created a @madtini twitter account and then decided we might as well buy the domain Madtini.com.

So here you have it – Madtini.com – the virtual Mad Men martini party. Every week during season 3 of Mad Men you’ll find us here and on twitter talking about the martinis, cocktails, and 1960′s livin’.

You won’t find a recap of the episodes here – we’re far too lazy for that – but what you will find is some comments on the drinks, along with some recipes, and some lively cocktail conversation each week.
