Say Bonjour to 5 Delicious Grand Marnier Cocktails

by Randy Matheson Leave a Comment

Grand Marnier cocktails
We dedicate this edition of Madtini to the delicious orange French liqueur Grand Marnier. The liqueur was first created in 1880 by Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle and is made from a blend of cognacs and the distilled skins of bitter oranges. Grand Marnier uses only variety of orange, the Citrus Bigardia which are grown on their own plantation in the Caribbean. The peels are dried in the sun and then macerated and distilled to release their essence. The results are combined with aged cognac to create the final liqueur.

We’re featuring five of the most delicious cocktails from the list featured on the Grand Marnier website. Á votre santé!

Agave Kiss

by Randy Matheson 1 Comment

Agave KissYou don’t often thing of adding tequila to a creamy drink, however it works great in this case. The initial taste of the chocolate and raspberry comes surrounded by the full bold taste of the tequila. It’s creamy texture and smoothness is deceptive, this kiss really packs a punch.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Sauza Silver Tequila
  • 1 oz white creme de cacao
  • 1 oz double cream
  • 1/2 oz Chambord
  • white chocolate shavings
  • fresh raspberries

Preparation
Place 3-4 ice cubes in cocktail glass in place in the freezer. Combine the tequila, creme de cacao and chambord in a cocktail shaker with 3 ice cubes. Shake for 10 seconds. Add the double cream and stir well. Remove glass from freezer and strain contents of shaker into it. Skewer 3 fresh raspberries and serve.

Here’s hoping you’re making these two at a time

12 Days of Madtini Holiday Cocktails #6: The Warhol Crush

by Merlene Leave a Comment

Christmas Crush What do Andy Warhol and the Christmas holidays have in common? It turns out quite a bit actually. Andy illustrated and designed a gorgeous series of Christmas cards for Tiffany & Co. between 1956-62. In addition, Andy created a 33-minute film of Soren Agenoux’s play of Charles Dicken’s Christmas Carol in 1966.

Now that we have a solid connection made between Andy Warhol and the holidays, we can justifiably include the ‘Warhol Crush’ as one of our 12 Days of Madtini Cocktails. This drink was published in 2008 as part of Martini & Rossi’s ‘Factory Drinks’ campaign, revisiting the work that Andy Warhol did for the iconic Italian makers of vermouth  in the ’50s and ’60s. You can make a safe bet that we’ll be featuring the rest of these drinks on an upcoming Madtini post.

Ingredients

  • 12 fresh rosemary needles
  • 6 fresh raspberries
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz Martini & Rossi Rosso Vermouth
  • 2 oz cranberry juice

Preparation
Strip off a dozen rosemary needles and add them to the bottom a mixing glass with the raspberries and simple syrup. Muddle the items gently. Add ice, then add vermouth and cranberry juice. Shake the ingredients, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with three raspberries speared by a rosemary sprig.
