4 N’awlins Cocktails to Rock Your Mardi Gras Party

Mardi Gras 2011It’s Mardi Gras time in the Big Easy and that means it’s full-on party time. Whether you’re in New Orleans for the big celebration or just hanging out with friends at home you’ll need a few special cocktails to make your party complete. Here’s four traditional New Orleans drinks to get you and your friends in the spirit of the holidays.

Sazerac

Sazerac
Ingredients

  • 3 oz rye whiskey
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • Splash of absinthe
  • 2-3 dashes of Peychaud’s bitters
  • Twist of lemon zest

Preparation
Add ice to a rocks glass and put aside to chill. Combine simple syrup and Peychauds. Add rye and ice and stir gently. Discard ice and add a splash of absinthe to the rocks glass. Swirl and discard the excess absinthe. Add the rye mixture to the rocks glass and garnish with a twist of lemon zest.

Red Rooster

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 3 oz cranberry juice
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • orange twist

Preparation
Combine vodka, cranberry juice and orange juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Sh.ake then strain into a highball glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a twist of orange zest

Brandy Milk Punch

Brandy Milk Punch Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz  Brandy
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 3 oz  milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • grated nutmeg

Preparation
Combine the brandy, simple syrup, vanilla extract and milk in a cocktail shaker with 2-3 ice cubes. Shake vigorously and strain in to rocks glass filled with crushed ice. Add some grated nutmeg to the top.

Daiquiri

Ingredients

  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • lime wheel

Preparation
Combine the dark rum, lime juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of lime.

Halloween Cocktails #3, Walk with a Zombie

Madtini Walk with a ZombieIts a week before Hallowe’en, but the thought of Zombies is never far from our minds here all year long at Madtini World Headquarters. We spent our Saturday afternoon undercover, as we walked arm in arm with the undead. Here are a few pictures to prove it. We are determined to be protected and not caught without supplies during the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse. We’re stockpiling rum, gin, tequila and vodka,  making sure the doors and windows are heavily secured and that we have adequate ammunition very close at hand. Double Tap!

Even though #22 of the Rules of Zombieland clearly states ‘No Drinking’, we have to stay true to the rules of Madtini. Rule #1 at Madtini states ‘have a good time, but know your limits and play within them’. There’s nothing more embarrassing (and potentially fatal) than partying too hard and waking up to a zombie nibbling on your fingertips.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz golden rum
  • 1 oz 151 dark rum
  • 1/2 oz apricot brandy
  • 1/2 oz amaretto
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • 1 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 1 1/2 oz pineapple juice
  • 1/2 oz grenadine

Preparation
Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice except the 151 dark rum & grenadine. Shake well then strain into a tall cocktail glass. Add the 151 dark rum and grenadine to the top of the drink. Garnish with an orange wedge and two maraschino cherries.

It’s Friday afternoon again and while scanning through the pages of the Complete Home Bartender’s Guide: 780 Recipes for the Perfect Drink we chose this drink recipe. Tonight’s Friday Madtini cocktail is the Hold Up, with its delicious mix of brandy, coconut rum, orange and lemon juice will make your taste buds jump up and salute the oncoming weekend.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 oz brandy
  • 2/3 oz coconut rum
  • 1 oz fresh orange juice
  • 1/3 oz fresh lemon juice
  • dash gomme syrup

Preparation

Add the ingredients to a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake and then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Brandy Frost – 12 Days of @Madtini Holiday Cocktails – Day 4

Brandy Frost

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz milk
  • 1/2 oz white crème de cacao
  • 1 oz brandy
  • 1 tbsp peppermint schnapps

Mixing:
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and then strain the contents into a cocktail glass. Garnish the drink with a small candy cane.
