Foynes’ Red Eye

Foynes' Red Eye

Created by Misty Kalkofen, a bartender at Green Street in Cambridge, Mass., as a homage to the Irish Coffee, which orginated at the Foynes Airport in Limerick, Ireland.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Redbreast Irish Whisky
  • 3/4 oz Amara Averna
  • 1/2 oz heavy cream
  • 1 oz Guinness Simple Syrup*
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • coffee bean

Preparation:
Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker 2/3 filled with ice. Strain into a chilled martini or coupe glass. Top with grated bits of coffee bean.

Guinness Simple Syrup
Add a can of Guinness to a sauce pan over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, add 8 ounces of Demerara sugar and set aside to cool. Refrigerate, the Guinness syrup should last for a couple of weeks.

Irish Manhattan

Irish Manhattan

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 oz Bushmills Irish Whisky
  • 1 1/2 oz Noily Pratt Sweet Vermouth
  • 3-4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 can of Guinness

Preparation:
Combine all the whisky, sweet vermouth in a mixing glass 2/3 full of ice. Add the bitters, stir the contents. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Pour the can of Guinness into a beer glass, as the beer settles, scoop the foam and carefully add it to the martini glass. Thanks to Roger Fleming for suggesting this recipe.

Port o’ Call Cocktail

Port O' Call Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Guinness
  • 2 1/2 oz Cognac
  • 1 oz St-Germain
  • 1/2 oz Crème de Cacao
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Orange zest

Preparation:
Combine all the ingredients in a mixing glass 2/3 full of ice. Stir gently and strain into a chilled martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a twist of orange zest.

Guinness Ice Cream Float

Guinness Ice Cream Float

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of Guinness
  • 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • Chocolate syrup
  • 1 oz of Baileys
  • Whipped Cream
  • Chocolate Sprinkles

Preparation:
Add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream to a beer glass. Pour in chocolate syrup and Baileys. Add Guinness and stop with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.

Black Velvet Champagne Cocktail

Ingredients

  • Guinness
  • Champagne or Sparkling Wine

Preparation
Fill a champagne flute halfway with Guinness. Fill the rest of the glass slowly by puring your sparkling wine over the back of the spoon.

6 Cocktails that’ll Shake Your Shamrocks this St. Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick's Day Cocktails 2011It’s almost Saint Patrick’ Day and as usual, we have a couple of burning questions on our minds here at Madtini:

  • If you drink enough green beer, will it your pee turn green?
  • Is it true that Jennifer Aniston starred in the first Leprechaun movie?
  • Are there really two pots of gold at the end of a Double Rainbow?

The answers are: no, yes and we friggin’ well hope so.

When we are not asking ourselves the big questions, we are out finding great cocktails to try and share with you. Here are 6 cocktail recipes that the Madtini team have brought together for you this year.

Sláinte! Have yourself a great St. Patrick’s Day!

1. Irish Canadian Old Fashioned

Irish Canadian Old Fashioned Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 oz Jameson
  • tsp maple syrup
  • 3-4 dashes of bitters
  • juice from half a lemon
  • twist or orange

Preparation
Combine the maple syrup and bitters in the bottom of a mixing glass, stir until well combined. Fill 2/3 of the glass with ice, then squeeze the lemon over the ice. Pour in Jameson and garnish with a twist or orange.

2. Irish Dreamsicle

Irish DreamsicleIngredients

  • 1 oz Jameson
  • 1/2 oz peach schnapps
  • 1/2 oz Bailey’s
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • orange slice

Preparation
Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with 3 ice cubes. Shake vigorously, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry.

3. Irish Manhattan

Irish Manhattan Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Jameson
  • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 can Guinness
  • Maraschino cherry

Preparation
Combine the whiskey, vermouth, and bitters to a mixing glass.  Fill the glass 2/3 of the way full with ice. Stir for15-20 seconds, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Pour a can of Guinness into a tall glass and allow to settle. Gently scoop all the light foam from the top of the Guinness and place it on top of the drink. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

4. Port O’Call Cocktail

  • 1 oz Guinness
  • 1 1/4 oz Cognac
  • 1/2 oz St-Germain
  • 1/4 oz crème de cacao
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Orange zest, for garnish

Preparation
Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Stir, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a twist of orange.

5. Irish Milkshake

Irish Milkshake Ingredients

  • 3 large scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 3 oz Guinness
  • 1 oz Jameson
  • Chocolate syrup

Ingredients
Combine Guinness, Jameson and ice cream in the best blender you have, until well mixed together. Drizzle the inside of a chilled glass with the chocolate syrup, then pour in the ice cream mixture. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

6. Leprachaun’s Buttery Nipple

Leprachaun's Buttery Nipple Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz Bailey’s
  • 1/2 oz butterscotch schnapps
  • 1/2 oz creme de menthe

Ingredients
Layer in the creme de menthe, butterscotch schnapps and Bailey’s into a chilled shot glass.

Bonus: Irish Mojito

Irish Mojito
Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz rum
  • 8-10 mint leaves
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • juice of half a lime
  • juice of quarter of a lemon
  • splash of club soda
  • splash of creme de menthe
  • lime wedge

Ingredients
Muddle the juice of half a lime and mint leaves in a mixing glass. Add the rum, sugar and lemon juice. Add ice and shake the contents. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add a splash of club soda, then drizzle creme de menthe so that it settles in the bottom of the glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

The Irish Manhattan

Irish Manhattan

Slàinte, and have a great St. Paddy’s Day!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Jameson
  • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 can Guinness
  • Maraschino cherry

Preparation
Combine the whiskey, vermouth, and bitters to a mixing glass.  Fill the glass 2/3 of the way full with ice. Stir for15-20 seconds, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Pour a can of Guinness into a tall glass and allow to settle. Gently scoop all the light foam from the top of the Guinness and place it on top of the drink. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

The Irish Milkshake

Irish MilkshakeThis spiked shake would go perfect with your Guinness Burger, and its simple enough to make at home for your St. Patrick’s Day gathering.

Ingredients

  • 3 large scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 3 oz Guinness
  • 1 oz Jameson
  • Chocolate syrup

Ingredients
Combine Guinness, Jameson and ice cream in a blender until well mixed together, not all blenders will work the same which is why you can read the vitamix 5200 vs 5300 review here to know which one is the best and why or other sites as Zozanga for buy blenders. Drizzle the inside of a chilled glass with the chocolate syrup, then pour in the ice cream mixture. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
