Speak… I mean Drink like a Pirate Day with the Madtini Crew

“Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest — Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!”

Well, shiver me timbers it looks like it’s “International Talk Like a Pirate Day” again already. It seems just yesterday that I was annoying friends, colleagues and strangers with pirate-ish expressions such as “Arrrrrrrrrr we having fun yet?” or “No, that’s not my wooden leg, its just the ways my pants are cut.”  Talk Like a Pirate Day was created in 1995 by two non-pirates John Baur, a.k.a. Ol’ Chumbucket and his pirate-in-crime Mark Summers a.k.a. Cap’n Slappy in Albany, Oregon. It grew over the next few years, thanks to media mentions and websites featuring Pirate-Name Generators and Pirate Translators. By the way, my Pirate name came out as Pirate Argus the Pink.

In the spirit of “Talk Like a Pirate Day” we’re going to drink like pirates. . . which basically means we’re going to drink spiced rum, sport eye patches and bandanas and well, basically, annoy the neighbours.

Here are six Pirate Day drinks that may just shiver your timbers. And remember guys, always pillage responsibly.

So as Blackbeard said – “Damn ye, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, I’m a better man than all of ye milksops put together” – which I think means ‘Thanks I’ll have another”… or maybe not.

Note: We used Sailor Jerry as the spiced rum for these drinks, for the image, the taste and the whole story behind the brand.

Cheers, and glad you could join us for fancy drinks for pirates. See you next year!

Its 90210 Day – Pour Yourself a Peach Pit

Madtini Peach Pit CocktailI was blissfully unaware of the significance of today when I scrambled from bed. I had already slept through my iPhone alarm and hit the snooze button a half dozen times. It wasn’t until I arrived at work that I saw that Twitter was lit up with people talking about 90210 day. At first I didn’t get it, and then it all made sense, September 2nd, 2010.

At Madtini Intoxicology Labs we’re always up for celebrating just about anything, so why not raise a glass to the second day of September and the hangout for the Brandon, Brenda, Dylan and the rest of the Beverly Hills: 90120 gang.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz peach schnapps
  • 1 oz dark rum
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz coconut rum
  • coca cola

Preparation

Combine rum, peach schnapps, vodka and coconut rum in a highball glass full of smashed up ice. Add coke, give it a quick stir and serve.

My Secret Crush Cocktail photo

My Secret Crush Cocktail

Your friends the amateur intoxicologists here at Madtini Research Laboratories have come up with a number of Madtini Original cocktails to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

This, the second of our Valentine’s Day Passion Potions, brings back memories of the first stirrings of romance we all felt when we had our first secret crush.

Remember those days? The girl down the street or the boy three lockers down… the one who didn’t even seem to know you existed but you knew everything about them. What their class schedule was, where they hung out, what their favourite soda was… hoping one day that they would notice you…

My Secret Crush Cocktail

  • 1/2 ounce peach schnapps
  • 1/2 ounce grenadine
  • fresh raspberries
  • 1 ounce raspberry vodka

In a cocktail shaker or small bowl muddle the peach schnapps, grenadine and 4 fresh raspberries until well mashed. Add raspberry vodka and crushed ice. Shake well then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with fresh raspberries.

We promise it’s just the thing to set your sweetheart’s heart aflutter…

Your Bloody Valentine

  • 1/2 ounce peach schnapps
  • 2 ounces sparkling wine
  • 1 wedge blood orange
