It’s Friday, and after a long week of trudging around in the cold slush thank’s to an early spring snowstorm we’re ready to have some fun with friends. But first we need something light, fresh and smooth to celebrate the launch of the weekend and this cocktail sounded like the perfect answer.
Tonight the folks from Madtini are heading downtown to Tequila Bookworm on Toronto’s Queen Street West to enjoy the tight grooves and rockin’ beats of Abdul Smooth and Nathan Lee, who make up the music project called People Downtown. They are hosting The Media Social, a monthly meetup for media professionals to get together, discuss their work and encourage continued collaboration. If you’re in the Toronto area drop by, hang out and say hello.
Ingredients
Preparation
Carve a spear from an English cucumber to be used later for a garnish. Peel the rest of the cucumber, scrape out the seeds, then cut into it into small chunks. Add the cucumber chunks to a food processor and puree until smooth. Strain the contents through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, squeezing as much liquid out as possible.
Add the sugar, mint leaves, lime juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well, then add the cucumber juice, vodka and cointreau. Shake the combined contents, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add the cucumber spear as a garnish and serve.

Today, the folks here at Madtini are toasting the first day of spring with three great vodka cocktails. We’re using Prairie Organic Vodka from the heartland of Minnesota, where I’m sure they’ll be glad to see warmer days too.

It’s Friday night again, and despite the fact that it’s the day after St. Patrick’s Day the entire Madtini crew is still standing and ready to roll ourselves into yet another weekend.
We’re keeping it simple tonight and serving up two of the most famous vodka cocktails; the Black Russian and its creamy cousin the White Russian.
After a few of these drinks I’m sure we’ll donning our big Russian winter hats and sing-shouting the lyrics to Boney M’s historically-dicey disco ode to infamous Russian nutjob ‘Rasputin’. Everybody sing “Ra-Ra-rasputin… Russia’s Greatest Love Machine…”
Nasdrovie, from the good folks at Madtini!

No, that’s not a mispelling of the title of the less than awesome Mark Wahlberg movie featuring scary winds and self-abusing zombies. It is however, a twist-and-a-half on the Manhattan, and a cocktail that’s celebrates the birthday of one of our bestest Madtini buddies ever, Anne who was born on this day (not too long ago) in Helsinki, Finland.
The Madtini Intoxicology crew was summoned to the lab early today (which really would be anytime before noon) to create this delicious cocktail of Finlandia vodka, cranberry juice, Chambord and blackberries.
Cheers and Happy Birthday Anne! Or, according to Google Translate ‘Kippis ja hyvää syntymäpäivää’ (seriously, is that even remotely correct?)
Ingredients
Preparation
Place a martini glass in the freezer to chill for 10 minutes. Combine the vodka, cranberry juice and chambord in a cocktail shaker with 2-3 ice cubes. Shake it like a Polaroid picture for 5-6 seconds, strain and serve. Garnish with blackberries.
The Strawberry Flirt features the best of romantic Italy – the taste of sparkling Prosecco from Villa Sandi along with the taste of wild strawberry from Fragoli. Combine that with some fresh sliced strawberries and you have a night of romance ahead of you, the only missing is the chocolate.
Ingredients
Preparation
Chill two champagne flutes. Combine the vodka and wild strawberry liqueur in a cocktail shaker with 3 ice cubes. Shake for 6-7 seconds and then add to the chilled flute glasses. Add Prosecco and garnish with several fresh sliced strawberries. Serve, savour and enjoy.

This is our second ‘Madtini 12 Days of Cocktails’ list. It’s been a fun challenge finding new and interesting drinks to share. We hope all of the Madtini readers have a safe and happy holidays. Remember to enjoy your drinks in moderation, and never drink and drive. Have a sober friend drive you home, take a cab, transit or stay over.
Merry Christmas from the entire Madtini Labs crew, even Manuel our unpaid olive-pitting intern who is still recovering from a recent garnishing incident gone horribly wrong. Our best wishes are with his family at this difficult time. (and yes, we are kidding – Manuel is just fine and has been deservingly promoted to Junior Ice Management Technician… still unpaid) ; )
