Winter is finally on the run and spring is well… springing. That means that the sap is running in the sugar maple woods of the Northeast and it’s time to think about heading to the sugar shack for a fresh supply of maple syrup for our pancakes, waffles and of course cocktails.
The drink experts here at Madtini have assembled a collection of 8 of their favorite maple syrup sweetened cocktails.
1. Maple Manhattan
- 2 oz Maker’s Mark
- 1/4 oz sweet vermouth
- 1/4 pure maple syrup
- 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Preparation
Combine the bourbon, sweet vermouth, maple syrup and bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake several times, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add a cherry on a pick for a garnish.
2. No’Easter
- 1 1/2 oz Maker’s Mark
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
- splash of Ginger Beer
Preparation
Combine the bourbon, lime juice and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake several times. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Add a splash of ginger beer on top and garnish with a lime wheel.
3. Maple Leaf Cocktail
- 1 1/2 oz Maker’s Mark
- 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
- 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
- cinnamon stick
Preparation
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake several times. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
4. Kicking Cow Cocktail
- 2 oz Maker’s Mark
- 1 oz light cream
- 1 oz pure maple syrup
- cinnamon stick
Preparation
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake several times. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add a cinnamon stick to garnish.
5. Old Fashioned Canadian
- 2 oz Rye Whiskey
- 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- crispy bacon
Preparation
Combine the maple syrup and 2 dashes of bitters, stir to mix. Add ice cubes and rye whiskey Add a crispy strip of Canadian bacon to garnish.
6. Filibuster Cocktail
- 1 1/2 oz Rye Whiskey
- 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 oz pure maple syrup
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- 1 egg white
- lemon twist
Preparation
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add a twist of lemon to garnish.
7. Maple Syrup Martini
- 3 oz Maker’s Mark
- 3/4 oz pure maple syrup
- 3/4 oz Noilly Prat Dry French Vermouth
- 2 dashes orange bitters
Preparation
Add the vermouth and bitters to a mixing glass, add ice and stir well. Pour out half the liquid and add bourbon and maple syrup. Shake well, the strain into a chilled cocktail glass and serve.
8. Maple Kiss
- 2 1/2 oz Rye Whiskey
- 3/4 oz Chambord
- 1/4 oz pure maple syrup
Preparation
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add a fresh raspberry as garnish.
